Andromeda Turre: A Divine Nightingale

I’ve seen her before and I thought she’s divine, vibrant and has her own unique way to charm her audience.

Finally, last night, I had the chance to talk to her vis-a-vis. The moment I entered the door, I smiled at her and she responded with a very welcoming, “Hi!”

That single word alone floored me and we then became like friends from ages for the rest of the night. She’s a real trooper sans the celebrity hypocrisy in her soul. She’s just a totally down-to-earth fella who enjoys a good, hearty laugh with someone she just met.

And boy, she’s one hell of a performer. She gyrates her curves like a nymph–seducing her audience for an awesome night of music with her.

Indeed, she really knows how to move her booties.

Beyonce is so overrated.

Andromeda is the new queen of booty-shaking moves. Hahahahaha!!!

Well, if you have six years of belly-dancing experience under your belt, then, booty-shaking is your thing!

And the bad news is: Last night was her last performance at a classy bar called CENTRO in Kerry Center Hotel after four months here in Beijing.

But, then, I reckon, she’ll be back soon.

And to answer your question, dear readers, just like a friend, Sara, said, “Who is she?”

Well, I answered Sarah a bit about Andromeda but it was kinda explanation not enough to sell her, so I managed to stalk her in google. Hahahaha…

And it brought me to her myspace account. So, here her resume.

“dangerously attractive… soulful voice” – New York Times

“talented…glamorous…gorgeous” – British Theater Guide

“Very talented, and a body any costume designer loves!!” – Michael

“a beautiful woman… strong performance” – Peter Santilli, Associated Press

“tantalizing femme fatale” – The New Yorker

“brilliant musician…awesome performance” –

Andromeda’s professional career started with Ray Charles as a background vocalist or “Raelette“. During her time with the Ray Charles Orchestra she was promoted to vocal director and arranger while performing as the lead Raelette.

After working with Mr. Charles, Andromeda sought out a more featured venue for performance and was hired as the lead vocalist for the J.C. Hopkins Biggish Band.
Performing from New York to Los Angeles she sang jazz standards and J.C.’s Grammy award-winning original tunes while also acting as “Rose”
in his play “Rose does Rico“.

Andromeda starred in Woody Allen’s “Murder Mystery Blues” at the Midtown Theater in New York in which she was acting, singing, dancing and playing the piano during the show. Andromeda’s studio credits include featured vocals on the film score for Café and Tobacco, which won a Moondance International Film Festival Award.

An international success, Andromeda was featured as the “Queen of the Blues” singing with the Jazz Big Band at Tokyo Disney in Japan for 14 months. While there she recorded her debut album “Introducing Andromeda
Turre” which was up for a 2008 Grammy for Best Vocal Jazz Album
. The self-produced album contains four original songs and several jazz
classics all arranged by Ms.Turre.

Andromeda has formal training in Vocal Performance / Music Business from Berklee College of Music, Theater from the Boston Conservatory and Dance from Alvin Ailey and Dance Theater of Harlem. She also studied piano and composition with Sonelius Smith.

Just returning from a successful tour in Italy, Andromeda is looking forward to performing there again this fall. Based in New York City, Andromeda continues to perform both original works and standards with her own group as well as being a featured vocalist with many other bands. In addition, she works as a vocal coach, songwriter, arranger, producer and performance coach.

Her second album is due out later this year with mega-producer Steven Shewbrooks. With a valid passport, Andromeda continues to take her voice all over the world.
